Soren Rozema, a junior from Cross Plains, Wisconsin. Rozema is majoring in pharmacology, toxicology and chemistry. His research interests include the development of anti-parasitic agents and a novel transformation that would produce compounds with broad-spectrum pharmacologic activity. He plans to pursue a doctorate in chemistry.

Hartford Union High School senior Olivia Burkholz, who participated in the UW–Madison Department of Chemistry’s 2017 Wisconsin Crystal Growing Competition, traveled to Florida earlier this year to collaborate with CASIS and send a project to the International Space Station. MADISON – The longtime space crunch for students taking chemistry classes will finally begin to ease in a couple of years, the famous but antiquated Babcock Dairy Hall is getting a big addition and the meat science program will soon get a new building on the University of Wisconsin–Madison campus.
